Transformation of Xidadun Historical Site into Energy Saving and Conservation Museum; Building of Parent-Child Park said Mayor Lu
In 2010, Xidadun Park was originally planned as the “Theme Park of Energy Saving and Low Carbon Emission for Environmental Protection” with the donation and construction from a private foundation. But due to the discovery of unearthed Niumatou cultural heritage, the Taichung City Government stopped the construction and conducted a review. After the inauguration of Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen, the project was adjusted and construction was speeded up to combine the building of a Children’s National Sports Center and the Xidadun Theme Park of Energy Saving and Low Carbon Emission for Environmental Protection, a paradise for families with the expected completion scheduled for March next year.
The commencement ceremony of the Xidadun Theme Park of Energy Saving and Low Carbon Emission for Environmental Protection and the Children’s National Sports Center was convened today and Mayor Lu attended the ceremony in person. She thanked the support of the private foundation with the funding of the construction fee of about NTD 76 million. Originally, Floor 1 was planned as spaces for environmental education and heritage exhibition and this time, Floor 2 will be built as the children national sports center for the coexistence of cultural preservation and friendly infrastructure.
Additionally, the park has been incorporated into the “Melody” project for the promotion of transformation of wet and dark public toilets into sitting toilet or barrier free one. With the building of friendly recreational facilities, more visitors will be attracted to come.
According to the Construction Bureau, the Museum will be located on Floor 1 equipped with areas for educational exhibition and experience of sustainable environment and green building, Xidadun cultural sites and multifunctional audio and video rooms while the Sports Center planned with dynamic game area and children’s reading room with soft cushions, ball pond and bricks for the use of children between 2 and 12 years old to develop their cognition and coordination abilities.
The Construction Bureau also said the Xidadun Construction acquired the construction permit in 2010 and was stopped due to the discovery of pre-historical artifacts such as the set of triple cups, ceramics and jade comb and decorative objects after being investigated by the National Museum of Natural Science. In August, 2011, it was rated as a cultural heritage site containing valuable Niumatou and Fantziyuan culture.
The commencement ceremony was attended by Mayor Shiow-Yen, Director General of the Construction Bureau, Chen Ta-Tian, Director General of Sports Bureau, Rex Yu-Jui, Director General of Cultural Affairs, Chang Ta-Chun, Councilman, Huang Hsin-Hui and Chen Shu-Hua and service team members from the offices of Legislators, Chang Liao Wan-Ching and Councilman Yang Cheng-Chung, Chang Liao Nan-Lun, and Lin Chi-Feng.
